They’ve heard of Twice but just aren’t as interested. The slightly older kids (10/11) are all about IVE, Le Sserafim and NewJeans. The younger kids I teach have ONLY heard of IVE. Yeah, i moved to korea a month ago and have been shocked by how quickly things are ‘old news’ here. The fact most people view Twice as having this youthful, cutesy image coupled with the general idea that KPOP is for youngins' is what's keeping them from selling out concerts, imho. Of course people will know viral songs and top hits, as people in every country would generally know big songs, but I wouldn't say the majority of people choose to listen to KPOP on their own time. Even some of my 6th grade elementary students think they're too old for KPOP. From my experience, listening to KPOP is something reserved for younger kids, like elementary and middle school students.

But the vast majority of 20+ year olds do NOT listen to KPOP on a daily basis. I think there's a general misunderstanding of how KPOP is viewed in Korea - songs go viral and hit the GP regularly, and some songs do become popular in regards to how often you hear them out and about. Even though Twice has matured their music and concept, they're still seen as having this youthful, bright, and cute image. They're a household name for sure - pretty much everyone I've asked knows who they are and their OG big hits, but a lot of people see them as just a cutesy and now irrelevant girl group. Your thoughts?Īs someone who lives in Seoul and has been to Twice concerts here, I've found that Twice's popularity in the GP is absolutely declining.

This is just my opinion, if it is bad or dumb I will delete it. Because I don't know the language, I can only assume that everything above has taken a toll on Twice's image in SK and it will take time for it to recover. Onces in my country have been working hard and we could fight misinformation, partially, and clean the comment sections a little bit, but when we look at the top comment on pannkpop the hate comments still get most upvotes in SK. Anti took over comment sections under news posts and fans then got disappointed in the girls. Regarding the hate train, I remember that Onces couldn't really defend the girls well when many misinformation about their abilities were getting spread in Korea, China and SEA. Also many new pretty girlgroups have debuted and fans switched to them. A lot of people just lose interest when a group is not complete. M&M encore, Twice hate train, and members' hiatus affected Twice more than can be realised. Twice could sell around 23K tickets for two Twicelights concerts in KSPO dome, but many things happened between 2019 and now. Maybe I'm just not that optimist about Twice position in SK now so I don't think a boycott campaign exist, but the Korean fanbase is really declining. I have only seen two tweets, one said the company should do more to promote, Twice needed to improve more, and the other said they forgot their root. I just think if they're really boycotting we should have seen more tweets or posts from K-onces about that. On twitter everyone has immediately came to the conclusion that it was because K-Onces are boycotting. You might or might not know that Twice has only sold less than 15K tickets for their two concerts in KSPO dome.
